Top Bellingen restaurant celebrates an excellent result2003 is shaping up to be a good year for Bellingen restaurant owners Toni & Ray Urquhart. Last week their popular restaurant No 2 Oak Street was judged the best fine dining restaurant in the restaurant & Catering NSW 2003 Northern Region Awards for Excellence. Just four months into the new year and No 2 Oak Street has made it into the well read and respected Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide and Gourmet Travellers Restaurant Guide. “After eight years in the business the award was a nice recognition”, Toni said. The Urquhart’s win was the third in four years. They also took the prestigious title in 2000 and 2001. At last week’s award ceremony No 2 Oak Street edged out last year’s winner Dish, Byron Bay. “Three titles – almost in succession – showed consistency”, Toni said. “It also shows the restaurant is holding it own’" she said. "However, No 2 Oak Street isn’t the only Bellingen identity to benefit from the award. This award is also for Bellingen, it puts Bellingen in a special place”. “There is so much diversity in Bellingen from coffee shops through to Thai restaurants and the clubs. So a person can come here for a week and have five different styles of dining”. Toni maintained quality was important whether it was organic or commercially grown produce. “We don’t try to have smart food, just good quality all the time, and a unique cellar from both locally and imported wines.” The couple extended their thanks to the public for their valued support during the past eight years, and promised No 2 Oak Street would continue to provide the same level of service and meals.
