The Xmas rush at No 2 Oak Street saw Michael and Shani Urquhart centre stage in our own fine dining restaurant. After a lifetime of foodie training the son and daughter have filled their parents shoes in a time of need.
In early December Toni fell and broke her femur leaving her wheel chair bound.

‘I’d like to thank everyone in the community for the flowers, gifts, support and love during these last few months. The kids especially have been fantastic,’ acknowledges Toni. Michael re-joined the family-run restaurant, relocating from Brisbane and the restaurant Baguette, where he’s been for the last 9 months. It had been planned all along for Michael to return and assist his father Ray, in the kitchen. He arrived a week before Toni’s unexpected fall and literally became Head chef overnight. Shani was in South Australia about to head across the Nullarbor when she responded to her parents phone call. “I’ve worked with and watched Mum forever and I know what I’m doing front of house - but the bookwork was all new to me. What a learning curve!’ Both Michael and Shani will continue to assist for as long as they can. What a tribute to a special family unit sharing the love of food and service with Bellingen and beyond.
